Seeking a way to advance your career? Great deal! The Honjo Foundation is pleased to offer its Honjo International Scholarship Foundation for the academic year of 2023/24.

The grant is a fully-funded scholarship available to all students who wish to begin doctoral or master’s degree coursework at any reputable Japanese institution.

Honjo International Scholarship Foundation has been established to provide scholarships to bright students who are struggling to study under different conditions in developing nations, as well as to Japanese students studying abroad, to help them learn advanced technologies and improve their good intentions. This foundation will serve as a cultural and friendship bridge between Japan and the rest of the world.

Program Duration: 1 to 5 years

Scholarships from the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation include the following application benefits:

  1. $200,000 monthly for one or two years.
  2. $180,000 monthly for three years.
  3. $150,000 monthly for four or five years.
  4. Expenses incurred to attend an international conference, etc.

Selection Standards
To qualify for scholarships from the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Languages Required: English and Japanese
All countries in the world are eligible. The student lacks Japanese nationality
In principle, a student enrolling in a professional graduate school is ineligible to apply. However, applicants must be able to submit a research proposal.
To be eligible for the Ph.D. program, the applicant must have been born after August 31, 1984. Master’s degree applicants must have been born after August 31, 1989.
After graduation, the student should have a strong desire to serve in his or her home country. This does not necessitate an employment guarantee or immediate return to the student’s home country upon graduation.
The student must have an in-depth understanding of international friendship and goodwill, attend foundation-sponsored events, and participate in the alumni network as a member.
The student must be proficient in Japanese conversational skills. The conduct of interviews will be in Japanese. (no exception)
How to Utilize
Please follow the important steps below to apply for the Foreign Students Scholarship:

Confirm your eligibility to apply.
Enter the “application management system” Complete the application form and upload the necessary materials.
Academic transcript: I from the undergraduate program at the university from which you graduated AND ii) from any other courses you are currently enrolled in or have previously completed. Transfer students must submit an official transcript from their previous institution. All applicants must submit at a minimum the academic transcript from their undergraduate studies. Photocopies are acceptable.
One set of three pages containing a scholarship application form, a resume, and a personal information form; attach your photo to the application form. Download the forms listed above from the website. Fill them out in Japanese by typing or writing by hand.
Research design: In Japanese, describe focusing on the following four points: I an outline of your research; ii) a projected schedule between now and graduation; iii) future plans and goals, and iv) past research (if any). 2~4 pages are preferable. Both typed and handwritten options are available.
One letter of recommendation from an academic supervisor (This confidential letter should discuss the applicant’s academic accomplishments, character/personality, and future potential.) There is no page limit or style restriction. If your former academic supervisor knows you well, you can request a letter of recommendation from him/her.
A certificate of enrollment or an admission letter.
If the entrance examination has not yet been held or if the results of the entrance examination have not been announced before you apply for this scholarship, write the date of the examination or the announcement of the results at the bottom of the application form. Please submit a certificate of current enrollment if you are currently enrolled in a graduate program. (Photocopies are acceptable.)

For 1, 4 & 5: Please prepare these materials in either Japanese OR English. If you have documents in a language other than Japanese OR English, please attach a Japanese OR English translation.
3. Upon submission of the documents, the application number will be assigned and a PDF of the application form will be generated. Please save the PDF, as you will require it when the results are posted on our website.
